Good afternoon!

We hope you all are having a great week and preparing for a fun Fourth of July weekend!

LRC staff just wanted to cover some details for Saturday's races as there is a small change in the starting point for the 5K race which we'll cover in a moment.

Early Pick Up Packet

We will have shirts and bibs ready for pickup by this Thursday, July 2. Office hours are 9:00am-5:00pm Thursday and Friday.

Lyons Recreation Commission

1201 S St John Ave, Lyons, KS 67554

620-257-5412

You can pick up packets on the day off as well. But early pick up will be offered.

Check-In

15K - 6:30AM - Lyons High School parking lot

5K - 6:45AM - Ave T (Alden Rd) and 16th Road - Located one mile EAST of Highway 96/14

Parking

15K - park in the LHS parking lot

5K - Please see the attached picture of the intersection at Ave T & 16th Rd. Park along Ave T or the north side of the intersection on 16th Rd (Highlighted in RED)

Race Begins

15K - 7:00AM - LHS Entrance

5K - 7:30AM - ***AVE T (Alden Rd) and 16th Rd*** NEW LOCATION

There will be about 0.6 mile on gravel road but the remaining 2.5 miles will be on pavement. After discussion with the Rice County Sheriff's department we felt this would provide a safer route, along with easier registration and more parking options. With the increase in traffic on Highway 96/14 and increase in participation over the years it will make the route safer. Plus provide some uphill and downhill over the bypass :).

The 15K will remain on the highway the entire route***

Construction on Broadway Ave

There is quite a bit of utility construction along Broadway Avenue. Which includes some sidewalk that has been torn out. Please use caution as you go through Sterling and try not to clutter into groups along Broadway if and when you need to use the street.

Water Stations

3 water stations will be set up:

1) Highway 96/14 & Ave R (15K)

2) Highway 96/14 & Ave T/Alden Rd (15K)

3) Casey's Gas Station (5K & 15K)

***We will have bottles of water, granola bars, and bananas at the finish line***

Race Ends:

East Van Buren St at the Sterling Lake Entrance.

Shuttle Van

We will have one transit van available for folks who need a ride back to their vehicles after the race. Again, it's just one van so if you could either be dropped off at the check-in or find an alternate way to get back to the starting points that may be quicker and more efficient.

Patrol

Patrol will be very limited this year. We will have one with the Rice County Sheriffs office to help get the 15K started but will tail off once all runners have crossed onto the highway.

The Sterling Police Department will have one by the bypass to help with traffic at those intersections but patrol will conclude after that.

Results

Please feel free to stay until the end. We will hand out awards once everyone has finished the race. Results can also be found on timerguys.com website or by the end of the day on our Facebook page.

As always, we hope you enjoy the event, have fun, and stay hydrated!
